Brief Introduction：

During the 110 years of development, the College maintains the idea of “Standing with the nation, serving for human well-being”, and persists in the tradition of “Unity, Rigor, Practicality, Endeavor”. She takes the responsibility of social welfare and strive for scientific innovation, achieving prominent progress in basic medicine, disease prevention and control, clinical treatment and diagnosis, and new technology development. 

In the 1930s, Tongji experts discovered “Oncomelaniaanhuinensis Li” and “Oncomelania Yaoi”, making outstanding contributions to the study of parasitology in China.

In the 1940s, Tongji researchers first discovered the prevention scheme for pa disease prevailing at the south of Sichuan, saving the life of millions of local people.

In the 1950s, Tongji initiated the “antimony potassium tartrate three-day treatment”, healing more than 5 million schistosomiasis patients. 

In the 1960s, Tongji researchers first discovered fetal heart ultrasonic reflex and hydrogen peroxidecardiac acoustic contrast method. 

In 1970s, Tongji Medical College first conducted research study and clinical experiment of organ transplantation national-wide, and established the first transplantation research institution.In 1980s, a new disorder of platelet aggregation defect was first discovered global-wide, named as Shen Di Disease.

In 1990s, “in-vitro cultured calculus bovis” invented by Tongji became the only traditional Chinese medicine in the four first class national new drugs. 

Since the amalgamation in 2000, we have attained accomplishments in the fields including major diseases of the nervous system, clinical cancer, biological medicine, major infectious diseases, surgical and organ transplantation, preventive medicine, medical imaging and etc. In each period of times, the College leads the medicine community by its landmark achievements.
