From October 22 to November 1, Vice President of HUST, Prof. CHEN Jianguo attended delegation organized by the Ministry of Education, and visited Colombia, Mexico and the United States. During the trip, He attedned the Sino-Mexican University President Forum and the Annual Conference of Pan-American Higher Education Association.
On October 23-25, the Annual Conference of Pan-American Higher Education Association was held in Bogota, Colombia. On behalf of Chinese universities, Prof. CHEN Jianguo participated in the round-table meeting titled "International Partnership Building"and made panel discussion together with Mr. Anthony Koliha, the Director of the Office of International Education Programs of State Council of the U.S.A, and Mr. Hans DE Wit, the Director of the International Higher Education Center of Boston College. Prof. CHEN Jianguo pointed out that over the past four decades of reform and opening up, Chinese higher education has made remarkable achievement in international scientific research, students mobility and international students training. He exchanged his ideas with on-site experts concerning the significance of education internationalization, later interviewed by Colombian Television and other local medias.
During the Annual Conference, the Delegation also attended the Bilateral Collaborative and Exchange Meeting of Sino-Colombian Universities. Representatives of the two sides expressed willingness to explore intercollegiate exchanges and cooperation in fields like students exchange, summer programs and joint research.
On October 29, the 3rd Sino-Mexican University President Forum was held in Mexico City. Vice-President Prof. CHEN Jianguo delivered a keynote speech titled "The Role of Universities in the Fourth Industrial Revolution". He introduced strong measures taken by HUST to comply with the new-round global scientific and technological revolution and industry change trends, including staying ahead in frontier research fields, gathering high-end innovation platforms, conducting basic science and interdisciplinary research, and serving local economic development.
During his visit to the National Polytechnic Institute of Mexico, Prof. CHEN Jianguo extended his good will for more Mexican students to study in HUST and discussed with representatives on deepening cooperation in the fields of chemistry and environment. More than 100 delegates from 60+ schools of China and Mexico attended the meeting, including Chinese Vice Minister of Education Mr. ZHENG Fuzhi, Mexican Deputy Minister of Education Mr. Concheilo, and Mexican Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Wen Lian.
On October 30th, the delegation visited the California State Polytechnic University and participated in the Sino-US University Presidents Forum. During the forum, Vice-President Prof. CHEN Jianguo and relevant personnel of California State Polytechnic University conducted in-depth discussions on cooperation in the fields of engineering, public management and student exchange.
