From November 4 to 6, a delegation headed by Prof. Michele G. Cyr, Senior Associate Dean of the School of Medicine, Brown University of U.S. A. visited Hust, and successfully held the first “HUST-Brown University Academic Forum”.

Prof. Chen Jianguo, Vice President of HUST and Dean of Tongji Medical College, met with the delegation and warmly welcome the guests from Brown University. Prof. CHEN pointed out that, in the past few years, HUST has conducted in-depth exchanges with Brown in public health, cardiovascular surgery, ultrasound imaging and other medical fields. He expected more achievement could be attained in joint research, co-cultivating medical professionals and interdisciplinary development. Prof. Michele G. Cyr fully agreed with Prof. CHEN and expected further fruitful cooperation. Subsequently, the 2 parties discussed specific cooperation projects and reached a number of consensus.

On November 5, the agreement-signing ceremony between HUST and Brown University was convened at the Wutongyu Academic Exchange Center. Prof. CHEN Jianguo said this intercollegiate agreement marks the future bilateral cooperation expanded from the medicine to other disciplines at the university level. In June, the first HUST-Brown University Day was successfully held at Tongji Medical College, which greatly enhanced mutual understanding and confidence. It is expected that the two sides can further complement each other's advantages, tap potential and establish more comprehensive and cooperative partnership. Prof. Michele G. Cyr expressed her appreciation for the warm hospitality and considerate arrangement of HUST. She pointed out that this visit was not only on behalf of the medical school, but also entrusted by the leaders of Brown University. She believed that the cooperation between the two schools will usher in a new development and reach a new level. Prof. HU Yu, Dean of Affilated Union Hospital, said that Union Hospital has maintained friendly and fruitful academic exchanges with the hospital of Brown University since 2016, and the two sides will deepen practical cooperation in the future.

On the afternoon of the same day, the first "HUST -Brown University Academic Forum" was held in the Academic Hall of Tongji Medical College. Prof. HUANG Kun Chaired the Forum, and Prof. Chen Jianguo addressed the opening ceremony. Prof. Michele G. Cyr made the first presentation introducing the global strategy of Brown University. Prof. Frank Sellke, a specialist in cardiac surgery, Dr. Philip G. Haines, an expert in ultrasound imaging, Prof. DONG Nianguo, director of Cardiac Surgery Department of Union Hospital, and Prof. XIE Mingxing, director of Ultrasound Imaging Department, all presented their academic reports on the cutting edge development of relevant professional fields. Nearly 200 teachers and students attened the Forum.
