On August 23, 2019,a delegationcomposed of 22 medical professionals from Taiwan organized by the Chinese Association for Cross-Strait Medical Exchanges and Health Promotion visited Tongji Medical College(TMC), HUST.

TongjiMedicalCollege is the first stop of the delegation in Hubei Province. They visited the campus, the Life Science Museum,the History and Culture Corridor,and then had a face-to-face talk with TMC students.Thirteen TMC students participated the dialogue with Taiwan compatriots.

Mr.GUAN Yunpeng,Deputy Director of Students Affairs Office of HUST,on behalf of HUST,attended the event and delivered a warm welcome speech to the delegation. He pointed out that fostering qualified medical talents for today’s China is the common goal for Mainland and Taiwan,leaving many areas for bilateral cooperation. He expressed his goodwill for more such exchanges and more Taiwanese to HUST for study.Director GUANe specially pointed out that 1.4 billion Mainland people are working hard to realize the "Chinese Dream", which requires Chinese youth to unit together to meet global challenges and strive for the great Chinese Rejuvenation.

Ms. LIANYihui, leader of the delegation and Secretary-General of the Association, pointed out that she brought the Taiwan medical elites here to strengthen our ties and enhance mutual trusts. She emphasized that the Mainland has made rapid progress in all aspects and its quick medical development has attracted worldwide attention;Taiwan's medical service has many strengths and characteristics in its own.Such cross-straits exchanges could be of great benefits to medical professionals on both sides of the Straits.In the end, Secretary-General LIAN sincerely invites mainland friends to visit Taiwan and feel the cultural charm of the island. 

Student representative of TMC, Ms.Hu Yingjie,introduced history of TMC and the students’life here,her humorous language with vivid pictures gave the Taiwan compatriots with a preliminary impression of Wuhan City and medical education of Mainland.

Subsequently, Ms. XUE Mei,Honorary Consultant of the Chinese Association for Cross-Strait Medical Exchanges and Health Promotion made a report on medical education and health system in Taiwan.Through her introduction,TMC students understand that Taiwan has well-trained medical staff, highly-qualified medical service, widely-covered medical insurance and human-centered quality control.All thesec haracteristics made the medical service one of the prides in Taiwan,which are desirable for Mainland to learn from.

Mr. ZHANG Jiayao,a master student from the Department of Orthopedics of Affiliated Union Hospital of TMC, introduced the application of the latest 3D imaging technology and artificial intelligence in surgical navigation. The Taiwan delegation marveled at this high-tec advance.

After the talks and presentations, under the guidance of TMC students, Taiwand elegation visited the School of Basic Medicine,the School of Public Health and the School of Nursing. Medical elites of both sides further exchanged their learning experience and deepened their understanding.

In the afternoon, the Delegation visited Affiliated Tongji Hospital.Vice President Prof. ZHUWenzhen attended the welcoming ceremony and delivered a speech.Ms.WANG Yun,Director of the International Exchange Office of Hubei Provincial Health Commission, made a report entitled "Brief Introduction of the Progress of the Medical Reform in Hubei Province".Ms.LIANYi-hui gave a report on the current cross-strait medical exchanges and humanistic medicare spirits in Taiwan. Later, the delegation visited neurosurgery wards, organ transplant wardsand outpatient pharmacy.

The members of the delegationare all from major medical centers and medical schools of Taiwan, including General Hospital of Taipei Veterans, National Yang-Ming University, National Taiwan University, Kaohsiung Medical University, Taipei University of Nursing and Healthetc.;their major covers acupuncture and massage, nursing, medical management, pharmacy, public health and so on.

The Chinese Association for Cross-Strait Medical Exchanges and Health Promotion was founded in August 2014 by a group of Taiwan medical experts with the purpose to promote cross-strait medical exchanges, and to introduce the people-oriented service concepts and advanced management of Taiwan to Mainland.Since 2017, the Association has organized 100+ young Taiwanese professionals to visit Mainland.These events have provided Taiwan medical elites opportunities to learn about the fast development in different regions of Mainland, and built a good exchange platform for medical professionals on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
