On June 6, 2019, the "Sino-British Forum on the Development of General Medicine Practice in China", hosted by the Department of General Medicine of Tongji Medical College,was convened in Wuhan.Prof.ZHENG Jiaqiang,the director of the Institute of Applied Health at the University of Birmingham and Academician of British Academy of Medical Sciences, and Prof. CHI Chunhua,the dean of the General Medicine Department of Peking University, were invited to make presentations.A total of 150 representatives attended the meeting, included administration heads, the specialists of general medicine and teachers in affiliated hospitals, community physicians and students.
The meeting was presided by Prof.ZHANG Cuntai, director of the Department of General Medicine of Tongji Medical College. Prof. AN Rui,deputy dean of Tongji Medical College of HUST, delivered a speech at the Forum.Prof.An pointed out that Tongji Medical College attaches great importance to the development of general medicine, and the Department of General Medicine came into being under this historical background; this Forum is the first academic activity after its establishment.
Professor Zheng Jiaqiang pointing out in his presentation that the 3 goals of general medicine practice is“better medical services and patient experience, better health and lowest cost”.The primary medicare provided by the general practitioner forms the basis of national health system, which is conducive to controlling medical costs and expenses, fundamentally solving the problems of difficulty in seeing a doctor. Professor ZHENG also emphasized the concept of“whole-person care, lifelong care”in general practitioner, which is a healthy ecosystem from birth to death.
Prof.CHI Chunhua made a report titled the Construction of Training Base for General Practitioner in Peking University Hospital, emphasizing that developing general medicine practice and establishing graded diagnosis-treatment system are the key to solve the problem of difficult and expensive medicare situation in China.Prof. CHUI unreservedly shared the exploration process and valuable experiences of Peking University.
At the beginning of its establishment, the Department of General Practice of Tongji Medical College is determined to build a first-class Department of General Practice with Chinese characteristics and contribute to the development of China's general medicine practice.
