On 8th Jan. 2019 the National Science and Technology Awards' Conference for 2018 is held in Beijing. 8 achievements from the HUST have won the awards. Among them, 5 are the general items as first completion unit, ranked fourth among all universities in China; 1 as first completion unit; 2 as participants.

As leading unit, HUST has won awards with following 6 achievements: The “Criminal Diagnostic Assessment and Regional Precision Detection Technology for Long-span Bridges” completed by Professor Zhu Hongping of the School of Civil Engineering, and won the second prize of the National Technology Invention Award. Professor Shi Yusheng of the School of Materials, etc. "The type (core) laser sintered material preparation and control technology for the integral casting of complex parts" won second prize of National Science and Technology Award; “Health Risk Identification of Typical Pollutants in Water” completed by Professor Xu Shunqing from School of Public Health won second prize of the National Science and Technology Award. The "Early Diagnosis and Targeted Therapy of Thrombotic Diseases" completed by Professor Hu Yu from Union Hospital won second prize of the National Science and Technology Award. "The key technology of surgical treatment of severe congenital heart disease" completed by Professor Dong Nianguo from Union Hospital won second prize of National Science and Technology Award. The project led by professor from School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering won second prize of National Science and Technology Award. In addition, Prof. Zhu Guoli from School of Mechanical Science and Engineering participated in the “Key Technology and Application of Design and Manufacture of Shaped Full-face Tunnel Boring Machine” and won second prize of National Science and Technology Award. Professor He Junjia from School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering participated in the “National Power Frequency High Voltage Full Series Foundation”. The key technology and engineering application of standard equipment won the second prize of National Science and Technology Award.

At the 2018 National Science and Technology Awards' Conference, Academician Liu Yongtan from Harbin Institute of Technology and Academician Qian Qihu from Chinese People's Liberation Army Engineering University won the highest National Science and Technology Award. In addition, there are 38 National Natural Science Awards: 1 first prize and 37 second prizes. 67 National Technical Invention Awards: 4 first prizes and 63 second prizes. 173 National Science and Technology Awards: 2 special prizes, 23 first prizes and 148 second prizes.
