The Second Sino-German Joint Symposium Successfully Held

On June 7-8, the Second Sino-German Joint Symposium hosted by Tongji Medical College of HUST and the Medical School of Duisburg-Essen University was successfully held at Union Hospital. This event is an important measure for Tongji Medical College to promote internationalization and “Double First-Class” construction.Also, it is an important part of “One Plus One Initiative”jointly constructed by Union Hospital and Duisburg-Essen University. The 9 delegates led by Prof.Ulf Dittmer,Head of the Chinese Office and director of the Virus Research Institute in Duisburg-Essen University, participated in the event.The two parties held several activities including the opening ceremony and strategic dialogue, academic workshop and seminars,which covered more than 100 teachers and students.

On the afternoon of June 7th, the opening ceremony was held in Union Hospital. Prof. Chen Jianguo, Vice President of HUST, and Dean of Tongji Medical College extented his warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to the delegation from Duisburg-Essen. He pointed out that Duisburg-Essen University is the earliest German universities signed intercollegiate agreement with Tongji Medical College and carried out comprehensive cooperation ever since. The two sides have developed many successful programs in personnel exchanges and scientific research,particularly the TRR60 project coordinated by Prof.Roggendorf,Prof.Dittmer and Prof.Yang Dongliang. This project and the newly-established "International Joint Laboratory of Infection and Immunization" can be regarded as an example for Sino-German international cooperation. President Chen hopes that the two sides will further deepen their cooperation,explore the potential, establish a solid comprehensive strategic partnership, and fulfill the vision described by"One Plus One Initiative".

On June 8th, the 2nd Sino-German Medical Academic Joint Lecture was formally held. There were 3 branch venues: Infectious Diseases Division, Neurosurgery, and Oncology Center. 9 experts from Duisburg-Essen University took part the 3 different session in their respective fields. The activities of the venue include experts report, forum, on-the-spot visits to the department/laboratory, case discussion, and surgical demonstration. The Sino-German Medical Academic Symposium is a grand event for both parties, and has laid a good foundation for cooperation and friendship.With joint efforts of both sides, more fruitful results will surely be achieved.
