The Sino-US Public Health and Medical System Exchange Forum, was successfully held on the afternoon of November 8, 2017. This Forum was sponsored by the Shanghai Alumni Associationof HUST, Tongji Medical Branch,and organized by the School of Public Health of Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University .
Before the Forum,the meeting for the newly-established Council of Tongji Medical Branchwas convened and Prof.QINXiangnan,the Secretary-Generalread the regulations of the Council.The participants unanimously elected Professor LIShuguang as the Chairman of the Council of Tongji Medical Branch and Prof. GENG Fei the executive director.
Professor LIShuguang, newly-elected Chairman of the Council, expressed his thanks for being trusted and his deep affections for Tongji as an alumna. He said the 5-year undergraduate study inTongjiMedical College was his most cherishable times and he hoped to serve more alumni and agglomerate friendshipfor Alma mater. Mr.GENGFei, the newly-elected Executive Director, summed up the past accomplishments of Tongji Medical Branch and fully affirmed its highlights and characteristic work and related activities, indicating the future task of the Council.
Prof. HU Bingchang from Harvard University, the Academician of American Academy of Medical Sciencesand an Alumniof TMC, introduced the elementary health care system and the components of medical insurance in the United States.
Prof.Hu's explained the private insurance played adominant role in U.S.and there was no whole-people medical treatment coverage. Health care investment in U.S.tops the world and priorities given tohigh-tech treatment and new drug development. However, the investment in disease prevention is relatively low and the attention is not enough in this regard. If U.S. could improve the environment and promote disease prevention investment,the healthlife expectancy could be prolonged.
Alumni Wang Xianji, Director of the Information Management Office of Shanghai Institute of Medical Science and Technology, gave a lecture on the health system in China.He stated the major statistics in recent years all indicated a significant improvement in health progress in China since the new medical reform. In fact, China is now catching up with the level of high-income countries in health care. Finally, he further explained the above progress through financing, service and supervision 3systems respectively in depth.
Last, professors formed a panel toi nteract with the audience around the lectured topics and analyzed the problems existing in current Sino-US medical system. They also answered the audience's questions brilliantly.
After the meeting, the alumni attending the meetingall expressed great benefits to them from this experience and their understanding of the health care system updated from more macroeconomic perspective.
