From August 16 to 27, 2021, the 11th Summer School of Infection and Immunity at the Univeristy of Duisburg-Essen(UDE) was successfully held. Ten eight-year clinical medical students from our college participated in the online course.

Ten experts from the Institute of Virology, Institute of Immunology and Faculty of Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases of the UDE gave excellent special reports and lectures on the theme of Infection and Immunity. At the same time, the Summer School continued the successful experience of last year, on the basis of the special courses by professors of UDE, another three discussions were organized, which were chaired by Professor Liu Jia of Union Hospital affiliated to our college, Professor Chen Jieliang of Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University and Professor LU Mengji of UDE. The three professors introduced their respective colleges and the key research directions of their laboratories.

Four Chinese doctorate students at Duisburg-Essen University shared their experience of studying and living in Germany, which provided a reference path for students willing to pursue further study in Germany.

This is the second time this year that our university carried out large-scale student exchange activities with the University of Duisburg-Essen. Our students actively participated in the course and exchanged with students from different cultural backgrounds, and stood on the international stage to demonstrate their professional views and display campus culture. While exercising their communicative ability, the students enhanced their self-confidence, showing their vigorous spiritual outlook and rigorous scientific research demeanor to the teachers and students of famous schools at home and abroad on the international stage.

Under the barrier of the Covid 19 epidemic, our school comes up with new ideas for international exchange. While promoting academic exchanges, it pays more attention to inter-school cultural exchanges than before. In order to cultivate international talents with global competence, we should build a trinity ability training mode of cultural cognitive ability, interpersonal awareness and personal self-examination attitude, provide students with the most cutting-edge international information, build the broadest communication platform and establish the most sober self-awareness.

It is known that UDE and TJMC of HUST signed the first inter-collegiate cooperation agreement in 1980. The Department of Infectious Diseases of Union Hospital and the Institute of Virology of UDE began to cooperate in the basic and clinical aspects of viral infectious diseases in 2009.The International Joint Laboratory of Infection and Immunity was successfully unveiled in 2017 and approved as the International Science and Technology Cooperation Base of Infection and Immunity in Hubei Province in 2019.In 2011, the long-term scientific research cooperation between the two schools helped the successful incubation of the Infection and Immunization Summer School, and nearly 100 students of our school participated in the School in the past 11 years, which greatly promoted the students exchange and resource sharing between the two schools.
