HUST Attended the 2021 China-Africa Innovation Cooperation Conference and Introduced the African Medical Scholars Program (AMSP)

On the afternoon of November 4th, the 2021 China-Africa Innovation Cooperation Conference and Hubei International Technology Exchange Conference--China-Africa Traditional Medicine Seminar was successfully held. The seminar was hosted by Hubei Provincial Government and undertaken by the Department of Science and Technology of Hubei Province in the form of both online and offline meeting. Deputies from the Department of Science and Technology of Hubei Province, Mr. SHEN Long, Minister Counsellor of Science & Technology department, Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in South Africa, Prof. Felix Dapare Dakora, President of African Academy of Sciences, and groups of outstanding scholars in the field of medical research from China and Africa attended the seminar. Ms. YAN Wei, Director of the International Admission and Cooperation Office of the School of International Education of HUST, introduced theAfrican Medical Scholars Program (AMSP)to all the participants.

Ms. YAN Wei gave a detailed introduction to the university development history, comprehensive ranking, discipline construction, and international cooperation. She made a specific presentation of the development of Tongji Medical College and the AMSP program sponsored by Chinese Government Scholarship. AMSP aims at cultivating outstanding medical physicians and improving medical services for all African countries. The program duration is from February to July in 2022. There are three programs in total: Training Program for Emergency Physicians, Training Program for Anesthetists and Training Program for Infectious Disease Physicians, all providing world-class teaching resources and clinical practice opportunities for applicants.

During the seminar, Dr. ZHAO Lei, Chief Physician of the Department of Infectious Disease, Union Hospital affiliated to Tongji Medical College of HUST, addressed a speech on the topic ofChinese experience of infectious diseases common to China and Africa. Dr. DANG Yiping, Associate Chief Physician of Vascular Surgery, Union Hospital affiliated to Tongji Medical College of HUST, delivered a speech themedAnti-inflammatory activity of traditional Chinese medicine and peripheral vascular disease. In addition, African scholars such as Mr. Hlupheka Chabalala, Director of IK-based Technology Innovation, Department of Science and Technology, South Africa, Mr. Keolebogile Motaung, Director of Technology Transfer & Innovation, Durban University of Technology and Prof. Innocent Semali, from Community Medicine Department of the Hubert Kairuki Memorial University, introduced their latest research findings, so as to seek cooperation opportunities between China and Africa in medical field.

This international academic seminar is an innovative initiative taken by HUST international recruitment team and demonstrates that HUST breaks a new ground on admission promotion for international students by visiting partner universities, high schools, and cooperative institutions overseas, and exploring new channels by attending international conferences and seminars so as to recruit high-quality international talents from various professional background.
