On November 18, 2021, the results of the election of academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2021 were announced.Prof.WU Tangchun, Dean of School of Public Health, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, was elected.

Prof.WU Tangchun is the first national outstanding youth, Yangtse River Scholar, chief scientist of 973 Plan and key R & D plan, and head of innovation group of NSFC in the field of occupational health and environmental hygiene in China.

His main research directions are as follow：

①Study of the mechanism and prevention of fine particulate matter-related cardiopulmonary damage/diseases

②Genomic, epigenomic and metabolomic profile, and their interactions with environmental pollutants on cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer

③Carcinogenesis and biomarkers of occupational and environmental related lung cancer and coronary heart diseases

④Occupational, environmental exposures and chronic diseases in cohorts

Prof. WU Tangchun has made outstanding contributions in revealing the causes of environmental diseases, elucidating the pathogenesis of morbidity and formulating preventive measures, and has played a leading and exemplary role in the practice of preventive medicine in creating a clean environment, promoting health and longevity, and sharing a better life. He has published 402 papers in JAMA (two papers), Nature, J Clin Oncol, Circulation, etc and his papers have been positively cited 14,328 times by CA Cancer J Clin, New Engl J Med, Nature, etc He edited three books, including Occupational Health and Occupational Medicine Textbook and Environment and Precision Prevention, and won one second prize of National Natural Science and Science and Technology Progress Award and two second prizes of National Teaching Achievement Award.
