Professor of International Health Policy at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto, and Academician of the Canadian Academy of Medical Sciences, Wei Xiaolin was invited to the School of Medicine and Health Management for an academic visit and gave a lecture entitled Global Comparative Health Systems and Policy: methods and case studies. More than 60 teachers and graduate students attended the lecture.
At the beginning of the lecture, Professor Wei expounded on the significance of the comparative study of health system and policy, introduced the classic theoretical framework of health policy analysis, and vividly explained the necessary conditions for the implementation of health reform policies in combination with the cases of health policy implementation in many countries. He believes that the window of policy reform needs the right time and the right policy plan. After that, based on the research results of his team, he made an international comparative analysis of the design and policy implementation of the medical and medical insurance system in the form of cases, citing classics throughout the whole process, which was fascinating. After the lecture, Professor Wei gave detailed answers to the questions raised by teachers and students attend this lecture, inspiring new ideas from theoretical research to empirical research.
Professor Feng Zhanchun, Dean of the School of Medicine and Health Management of HUST, said that Professor Wei's lecture opened a new window for researchers. He believes that these extensive and in-depth discussions provided ideas for the study of healthcare system reform. In addition, he hopes both sides could expand their discussion and carry out more frequent and extensive cooperative activities in the future.
After listening to Professor Wei's lecture, the participating teachers and students said that this lecture was an academic feast of knowledge and thought. Everyone not only experienced the style of academization but also gained professional knowledge of the discipline, which played a positive role in promoting future learning and scientific research.
