On June 5, Professor Ingrid Fleming, academician of the European Academy of Science and German Academy of Science, Vice-Dean in charge of scientific research of the Medical School of Goethe University Frankfurt, visited the School of Basic Medicine of Tongji Medical College and was awarded Consultant Professor of HUST. Academician Prof. YOU Zheng, President of HUST attended the awarding ceremony, and Vice-President Prof. CHEN Jianguo presided the ceremony.

President YOU Zheng presented the certificate to Prof. Fleming and delivered a speech. He spoke highly of Prof. Fleming's academic achievements and reputation, and fully acknowledged her outstanding contribution in promoting the exchanges and cooperation between HUST and the GFU. He pointed out Tongji Medical College derived from German medicine and owe a big debt to Germany. This event not only marked a new height of bilateral cooperation, but further deepened our friendship. He hoped that the two parties should be innovation-oriented, take advantage of respective disciplines, establish joint laboratories to share resources, and strive for world-class achievements, laying a good foundation for strategic partnership under bilateral or multilateral framework.

Prof. Fleming fully affirmed the academic strength and down-to -earth nature of HUST. She pointed out that HUST and GUF had many similarities in their development history, and it was such a privilege to be awarded professor by such a world-renowned university. She said that the School of Basic Medicine and the Affiliated Tongji Hospital are important partners of the School of Medicine of GUF. She will continue to contribute to the pragmatic cooperation in terms of platform construction, staff-student mobility, scientific research, personnel training and other aspects in the future, so as to promote the Sino-German people-to-people exchanges.

In the afternoon, Prof. Fleming was invited to the 277th Tongji Medical Forum and delivered an academic report entitled "Metabolic Control of Vascular Function". After the report, Professor Fleming and relevant experts and professors from entities of Tongji Medical college continued a symposium on how to make joint efforts to build a "Sino-German International Joint Laboratory of Cardiopulmonary Science".

Professor Ingrid Fleming is a member of the Executive Committee of the Elite Cluster Cardiopulmonary Institute (CPI) in Germany, project leader of the German National Cardiovascular Research Center (DZHK), academician of the European Academy of Sciences and the German Academy of Sciences. She is mainly engaged in vascular endothelial signaling pathway research, and has published more than 300 papers in Nature, Circulation, JCI, PNAS and other journals. Prof. Fleming was awarded visiting professor of HUST in 2018, and has worked closely with Prof. HU Jiong of the School of Basic Medicine and Prof. WANG Daowen of the Affiliated Tongji Hospital. In 2020 and 2021, they jointly applied for several Sino-German cooperative research project and jointly published several high-level papers.
