"Exploring Metabolic Pathways, Unraveling Cell Fate"

On the morning of August 26th, 2024, the opening ceremony of the HUST Global Summer School-themed "Exploring Metabolic Pathways, Unraveling Cell Fate" was successfully held in the Basic Medical College. The event was attended by distinguished guests including Vice Dean WANG Fang, Professor Sabrina Diano from Columbia University and Yale University, Professor Sofia-Iris Bibli from Heidelberg University, Associate Professor Benjamin Ohlstein from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, and professors LONG Lihong, HU Jiong, and GUO Zheng from the School of Basic Medicine. Additionally, 31 students from international institutions such as the University of California, Berkeley, and 61 Chinese students participated in the ceremony through a combination of online and offline methods.



Prof.WANG Fang extended a warm welcome to all students on behalf of the School of Basic Medicine. She emphasized that the International Summer School, part of the 2024 HUST Global Summer School, is an essential component of the "Basic Science Growth Companion International Summer School" initiative, which relies on the 7 major disciplinary excellence plans 2.0 base. Themed "Exploring Metabolic Pathways, Unraveling Cell Fate," the summer school aims to provide students with a multicultural learning and communication platform, fostering scientific research thinking, broadening international perspectives, and enhancing global competence to meet global opportunities and challenges better.



Following the opening ceremony, Professor Sabrina Diano, Director of the Human Nutrition Institute at Columbia University and Adjunct Professor at the Department of Cellular and Molecular Physiology at Yale University, delivered an engaging first lecture. Her topic, "Nutrient Sensing in the Brain," introduced the history and recent advancements in the study of energy metabolism hormones.



Iranian student SAMIN HOSSEINI KERMANI (Chinese name: KAI Li) from the 2023 MBBS program in Clinical Medicine expressed her gratitude for the course, saying, "Today lessons were absolutely amazing, my knowledge maybe not enough for that because Im bachelor degree first year , but totally helpful for my future , thank you for providing this kind of courses I hope every year we have this opportunity to attend this kind of lessons ."



From August 26 to August 30, 2024, the School of Basic Medical Medicine of Tongji Medical College of HUST, in collaboration with Yale University, Columbia University, the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Heidelberg University, and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, among other world-renowned institutions, has gathered six renowned experts and professors to delve into the field of cellular metabolism. The program combines cutting-edge lectures, group discussions, and presentation sessions, aiming to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the latest advances in cellular metabolism and to foster the development of scientific research and innovative practice skills.
