LIU Chao, an Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering paid a visit to the Department of Forensic Medicine of Tongji Medical College, HUST, on September 9, 2014. Other visitors included WANG Haisheng, the director of the Hubei Provincial Public Security Judicial Appraisal Center, and WANG Kun, the director of the DNA Laboratory. Their visit coincided with the 40th Teacher's Day of China. They attended an academic exchange event, which was joined by Vice President ZHANG Yonghui of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Deputy Dean CHEN Lili of Tongji Medical College, Prof. HUANG Kun, and Prof. WU Senlin from the Medical Science and Development Planning Office, heads of the Forensic Medicine Department, and representatives of teachers and students. The academic exchange meeting was chaired by LI Jianru, the Secretary of the Party Committee of the Forensic Medicine Department.

Vice President ZHANG Yonghui extended a warm welcome to Prof. LIU Chao. In his welcome speech, president Zhang mentioned the recent achievements in medical sciences attained by the university, and the progresses made in the Forensic Medicine Department. He stated that Prof. LIU's visit is conducive to the further development of the Forensic Medicine Department and paves the way to future strategic cooperation.

Professor XIONG Bo, the Director of the Forensic Medicine Department, gave a special presentation about the history, organizational structure, faculty, training of faculty members, research programs, and future development of the department.

During the exchange session, experts discussed the challenges confronting the Forensic Medicine Department and the countermeasures to address the challenges.

Prof. LIU Chao, in his speach, gave his greetings to all teachers on the Teacher's Day. He commented about the ongoing research projects of the Forensic Medicine Department and gave his advice.

Prof. LIU Chao is a well-decorated forensic scientist in China and has been worked in the field of forensic medicine for decades. He is one of the major founders of forensic genetics in China.
