From November 27 to 29, 2024, Associate Professor Ping Guo, Lead for Internationalisation of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, and Associate Professor Christopher Wagstaff, Head of Global Student Mobility of the College of Medicine and Health, University of Birmingham(UoB), visited the School of Nursing, Tongji Medical College, HUST. The two sides exchanged views on the cooperation and development of nursing practice.
On November 27, Wang Furong, Dean of the School of Nursing, Wang Ying, Deputy Director (Chair) of Nursing Department, Affiliated Tongji Hospital, and Geng Li, Deputy Director of Nursing Department, Affiliated Union Hospital attended the meeting. Prof. Wang Furong warmly welcomed the visit of Ping Guo and Christopher Wagstaff. She pointed out that over the years, both sides have carried out extensive cooperation in teaching, research and other aspects, and achieved fruitful results. It is believed that with the joint efforts, the cooperation areas will be further expanded, and the high-quality development of nursing discipline will be continuously promoted in the context of globalization.
The delegation thanked the School of Nursing for their warm reception. They said that the UoB and HUST have a long history of cooperation, and that the further development of the nursing discipline needs to strengthen the face-to-face communication between global partners. The visit will start a new phase of cooperation, which will be comprehensive in the areas of student exchanges, faculty visits and joint research.
In the discussion session, the two sides had an in-depth talk on student exchanges, scientific research platform construction and joint application of scientific research projects.
On the morning of November 28, the delegates visited Union Hospital. Director Liu Yilan extended a warlm welcome. Deputy Director Xiong Lijuan put forward a proposal to jointly organize a nurse training program. They discussed the differences in nursing research methods between China and the UK, and analyzed the characteristics of international nursing research and healthcare systems.
In the afternoon, Ping Guo and Christopher Wagstaff visited Tongji Hospital. Deputy Director Zeng Tieying attended the meeting. They had an in-depth exchange on suicide prevention and magnetic care. After the meeting, the delegation visited the Geriatric Department, comparing the differences in the infrastructure of wards and the current status of research on the prevention of falls and infirmity amongst elderly.
On the morning of November 29, the delegation visited the HUST History Museum. In the afternoon, Ping Guo and Christopher Wagstaff presented two academic lectures, which attracted more than 50 participants.
