UNSW Chancellor's Fellow explores joint research pathways during campus visit

WUHAN, May 15 – Prof. Patricia M. Davidson, Chancellor's Distinguished Fellow at Australia's University of New South Wales (UNSW), concluded a two-day visit to School of Nursing, Tongji Medical College of HUST, cementing plans for enhanced academic cooperation in nursing innovation and interdisciplinary research.

The visit commenced on May 14 with Prof. Davidson's participation in the HUST-UNSW Plenary Meeting at the Wutongyu Center, where both institutions launched a joint scientific research seed fund. This new mechanism formalized collaborative pathways across divisions of nursing, public health, ophthalmology, and international education.

At the School of Nursing's dedicated session on May 15, Dean Prof. WANG Furong highlighted the partnership's 12-year evolution since the first visit of Prof. Davidson in 2013. "Our sustained collaboration in research and academic exchange has yielded significant outcomes," WANG noted. "This dialogue will further synergize Sino-Australian efforts in nursing education and innovation leadership."

Prof. Davidson reciprocated the enthusiasm, reflecting on the productive relationship while emphasizing nursing's critical role amid global health challenges. "Deepening international cooperation allows us to collectively advance the discipline's development worldwide," she affirmed during discussions covering chronic disease management, geriatric care, mental health interventions, digital health integration, and educational reform.

During her stay at Union Hospital, Prof. Davidson visited ENT ward operation ward and exchanged perspectives with Ms. LIU Yilan on humanistic care models, AI healthcare applications, and women's health management. At Tongji Hospital, Prof. Davidson visited the National Standardized Cardiac Rehabilitation Center, discussed innovative chronic disease protocols, and evidence-based practice optimization.

The visit renewed the momentum for the institutions' shared commitment to transformation and delivery of healthcare education through transnational academic partnership.
