A 46-member delegation from Sun Yat-sen University, led by Prof. TIAN Guobao and Ms.WANG Shuzhen, Deputy Directors of the Office of Medical Education, visited Tongji Medical College at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) on August 15 for a comprehensive exchange on medical education practices and reforms.

Prof. SHU Xiaogang, Vice Dean of Tongji Medical College, warmly welcomed the delegation and provided an overview of the college’s educational philosophy, historical development, and recent innovations in talent cultivation. He emphasized the long-standing collaborative relationship between the two institutions. Ms. WANG expressed appreciation for the hospitality of the host and optimism about the results of the exchange tour.

The exchange continued with a detailed presentation by Mr. SHU Tao, Deputy Director of Academic Affairs, focusing on Tongji’s integrated curriculum reform initiatives.

Following the opening session, the delegation split into groups for site visits to Union Hospital and Tongji Hospital. They examined the entire training process for clinical medicine undergraduates, including cohort size, design and implementation of integrated clerkship programs, faculty development, performance assessment mechanisms, and the balance between theoretical instruction and clinical practice. The visitors also explored the use of teaching methodologies such as PBL, CBL, and TBL, as well as evaluation systems within the five-year clinical medicine program.

Experts from Sun Yat-sen University expressed gratitude for the open sharing of experiences and praised Tongji’s achievements in talent training, disciplinary development, and educational innovation. They described the visit as highly inspiring and expressed interest in further exchanges.

The event served as a meaningful platform for mutual learning in medical education. Both sides agreed to strengthen future collaboration in educational reform, curriculum innovation, and the integrated development of medical instruction, contributing jointly to the advancement of medical education in China.
