Sino-German Consortium on Medical Research and Education Hosts 2025 Summit in Wuhan to Chart Future of AI in Medical Education

WUHAN, November 13, 2025 – The 2025 Annual Conference of the Sino-German Consortium on Medical Research and Education and International Forum on AI-Empowered Transformation of Medical Education was held at Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST). The event brought together over 100 experts, scholars, faculty, and students from Chinese and German universities to explore collaborative pathways for integrating artificial intelligence into medical education, aiming to foster high-level innovation and sustainable development in the field.



Prof. Zhang Yonghui, Vice President of HUST, delivered the opening address. He emphasized that artificial intelligence is fundamentally reshaping the essence and boundaries of medical education. "Medical schools in China and Germany have distinct characteristics and complementary strengths," he noted. "We should leverage this alliance platform for in-depth exchanges to build a new paradigm of shared development and mutual benefit, contributing wisdom to medical education innovation."



Representatives from other institutions, including Prof. ZHANG Qi, Deputy Party Secretary of Sun Yat-sen University, and Michael Kirschfink of Heidelberg University Medical School, highlighted the longstanding history of Sino-German cooperation. They expressed hope that the forum would yield substantive results on pedagogical concepts and methodologies for the AI era.



The academic program featured presentations from over 20 leading experts. In the main forum, speakers such as Prof. YI Fan, Vice President of Shandong University, and Prof. Michael Keusgen, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Marburg, shared insights on how AI is profoundly empowering medical education. Parallel sub-forums allowed scholars from nine prestigious universities, including Peking University, Heidelberg University, and RWTH Aachen University, to exchange practical experiences on how AI technologies are reshaping educational contexts and paradigms.



The forum concluded with remarks from Prof. SHU Xiaogang, Vice Dean of Tongji Medical College. He stated that the forward-looking and substantive discussions had provided clear direction and momentum for the digital and intelligent transformation of medical education.

A concurrent "Study and Research in Germany" session, organized by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and partner universities, offered a detailed introduction to Germany's higher education system and scholarship opportunities, further broadening channels for Sino-German academic exchange.



The Sino-German Medical Consortium on Medical Research and Education functions as a dedicated platform to promote expert dialogue and collaborative exploration in medical education reform between the two countries.
