Twenty-eight scholars from Tongji Medical College (TJMC) at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) are on the 2025 Highly Cited Chinese Researchers list, released by Elsevier on January 30, 2026. The list, compiled using data from the Scopus database and methodology developed by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, recognizes 6,310 researchers across 543 institutions in China.

Among the more than 120 HUST scholars listed, those from TJMC span five first-level disciplines of Chinese Ministry of Education: Basic Medicine, Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Clinical Medicine, Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, and Public Administration.

In the field of Basic Medicine, Professors WANG Jianzhi and LU Youming were each recognized for the 12th consecutive year. Prof. WANG has published 331 papers (1997–2026) with 18,581 citations and an H-index of 72; Prof. LU has published 146 papers with 9,342 citations and an H-index of 48.

In Public Health and Preventive Medicine, four professors were honored. Prof. PAN An, included in the list for the seventh consecutive year, has published 468 papers with 41,683 citations and an H-index of 99. Prof. WU Tangchun, Prof. LIU Liegang, and Prof. LU Zuxun have been listed six, six, and four times respectively.

Most TJMC scholars on the list were from the field of Clinical Medicine, with 22 from the First and Second Clinical Colleges and Jinyintan Hospital. Among them were Prof. KONG Weijia (for 12 years in a row), Prof. HU Yu (H-index 67), Prof. WANG Daowen (H-index 85), and Prof. WU Kongming (H-index 72).

In Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Prof. LU Fu’er (listed for four years on end) and Prof. CHEN Guang (for five consecutive years) were selected. In Public Administration, Associate Research Fellow Dr. ZHANG Wei was listed for the third consecutive year.

The recognition mirrors the sustained research impact and academic excellence of scholars across TJMC’s core disciplines.
