The 2026 Tongji Public Health Summer School, part of the Huazhong University of Science and Technology Global Summer School, concluded successfully after three weeks of intensive lecturing. The program aimed to pool high-quality educational resources, broaden students' international horizons, and enhance cross-cultural competencies.

Seven medical experts from six countries and regions—including Hong Kong (China), Sweden, the United States, the Netherlands, Singapore, and Germany—delivered seven courses, given entirely in English and covering infectious disease epidemiology, clinical applications of epidemiology, medical research writing, genetic and molecular epidemiology, artificial intelligence in public health, and interdisciplinary research methods for global health.

The summer school attracted over 210 registered participants, involving more than 730 course enrollments. The participants were from 16 countries and regions, representing 28 universities and numerous healthcare and research institutions worldwide. Courses were offered in a blended online and in-person format.

Among the distinguished instructors were Prof. Benjamin J. Cowling from the University of Hong Kong, who taught infectious disease epidemiology and vaccine evaluation; Prof. Koh Woon-Puay from the National University of Singapore, who covered medical research writing; Prof. Oscar H. Franco from Utrecht University, who gave lectures on clinical applications of epidemiology; and Associate Prof. FENG Mengling from the National University of Singapore, who instructed on artificial intelligence in public health.

Since its inception in 2021, the Tongji Public Health Summer School has been held for six sessions in a row, drawing in over 8,000 participants from more than 200 universities across 30-plus countries. The program continues to deepen exchanges with global partners and contribute to the university's Double First-Class initiative.
