On July 19, 2022, Prof. YU Kuai from the School of Public Health of TJMC, published an article in Neurology entitled Association Between Change in Leisure-Time Physical Activity During the Postretirement Period and Incident Stroke.
This study based on Dongfeng-Tongji cohort, for the first time in the retired population revealed that increased levels of leisure-time exercise can significantly reduce the risk of stroke, hence retired people should be encouraged to actively participate in leisure-time actvities and sports, in order to reduce the risk of stroke morbidity for significant health well-being.
Stroke is the leading cause of premature death in China. It is highly demanding to find intervention measures for stroke morbidity. Leisure-time physical activity(LTPA), which can reduce the risk of stroke morbidity, provided an answer.
This study reveals for the first time that the increased level of leisure-time exercises can significantly reduce the risk of stroke in retired people, and emphasizes that retired people should be encouraged to actively participate in Leisure-time physical activity to reduce the risk of stroke morbidity and obtain significant health benefits.
