Wuhan mental health center (Wuhan psychological hospital) was founded in 1956, and was approved to be the first " Third Grade Class A" psychiatric hospital in Hubei Province in 1997. After more than 60 years of construction and development, it has become a modern hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, prevention and rehabilitation.

At present, the center has two hospital districts which one is called hexagonal pavilion and the other one is called two seven, with 950 authorized beds. The annual outpatient and emergency volume are more than 300,000, and the number of discharged patients is more than 10,000. It has 3.0T medical magnetic resonance imaging system and other medical research equipment. It has continuously held psychoanalytic training programs with international influence, such as China-US and China-France, and actively organized academic exchange activities of international organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Psychoanalytic Association (IPA).

The center adheres to the specialty development direction of "the hospital has key points, departments have characteristics, and personnel have expertise". One provincial key clinical specialty, two municipal key clinical specialties and two municipal public health key specialties were approved. The center has a complete set of sub specialties, with obsessive-compulsive disorder diagnosis and treatment, depression diagnosis and treatment, crisis intervention, mental health education in the forefront of the country; psychological trauma, substance addiction, sleep disorders, children's psychiatry, geriatric psychosomatic medicine, early intervention of mental disorders, integrated treatment of traditional Chinese and Western medicine, and psychiatric intensive care are booming.

At present, the center has more than 800 employees, including 59 with senior professional titles. In recent years, there have been fruitful achievements in scientific research. In the past three years, more than 70 scientific research projects have been approved, including two general projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and three youth projects, with a total research funding of more than 5 million yuan.
