On January 8, 2021, the first phase of Tongji Pharmacy Summit Forum 2021 was successfully held in the conference room on the 5th floor of Building 3, School of Pharmacy. This forum is sponsored by School of Pharmacy, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) as the series of activities for the 50th-anniversary founding celebration of School of Pharmacy. Guests to attend this conference include Professor Ke Ding (dean of School of Pharmacy, Jinan University), Professor Ao Zhang (dean of School of Pharmacy, Shanghai Jiaotong University) and Professor Chunquan Sheng (dean of School of Pharmacy, Naval Military Medical University). Professor Longjiang Yu (associate dean of the graduate school of HUST), Professor Yonghui Zhang (dean of School of Pharmacy of HUST), Professor Qian Wan (vice dean of School of Pharmacy of HUST), and Professor Guangya Xiang (vice dean of School of Pharmacy of HUST), as well as teachers and graduate students also participated in this academic activity.

Professor Yonghui Zhang, Dean of the School of Pharmacy, first expressed his heartfelt thanks to the deans of the three brother schools for coming. He pointed out that Tongji Pharmacy Summit Forum invited three deans with outstanding achievements in the field of new drug research and development to give keynote speeches. As new drug research and development is the relative shortcoming of our school at present, He hoped the three deans could promote the development of drug research, new drug development and student training in our school by sharing their successful experiences with the teachers and students.

The meeting was presided over by Professor Qian Wan. He introduced the resumes of the three deans respectively, and extended a warm welcome to the three deans. He hoped that the academic reports brought by the three deans would promote our school to develop new drugs further.

Professor Ke Ding, Dean of School of Pharmacy, Jinan University, took the speech about the research and development of GZD824, a new generation of anti-CML drug. He shared his hard research and development process for 12 years. He used vivid language to introduce the problems and challenges encountered by his research team at important time points in the research and development process. He also interacted with teachers and students on the problems and solutions encountered in the research and development of new drugs.

Professor Ao Zhang, Dean of Shanghai Jiaotong University, took the speech about the anti-tumor drug discovery and research-from molecular targeting to immunotherapy. He shared his insights into the field of new drug research and development, highlighting the importance and challenges of new drug research. He pointed out that the research and development of new drugs based on new targets is a complex process of multidisciplinary cross-cooperation. He encouraged pharmaceutical people to take responsibility for this major.

Sheng Chunquan, Dean of School of Pharmacy, Naval Military Medical University, delivered a speech on innovative strategies of pharmaceutical chemistry in new drug discovery. He shared his experience in the research and development of new drugs by introducing five parts: old target new molecules, new target new molecules, multi-target molecules, target unknown molecules and new functional new molecules. He pointed out that original drugs will be the mainstream of new drug research and development in the future, and made a systematic summary and prospect of new drug research and development technology PROTAC.
