Prof. John Fu from Saint Louis University of the U.S. give lectures at School of Medicine and Health Management
From May 22th to July 3th, 2018, Professor John Fu came to our university and delivered five lectures about health statistics. During this time, he was involved in the discussion of many research teams.
Dr. Fu a Professor of Biostatistics in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Saint Louis University. He joined the SLU faculty in 2002 and has since published many research papers in a variety of professional journals.
Based on the demands of our teachers, graduate and undergraduate students, Dr. Fu taught panel data and statistical methods of cross-sectional data in the research of health management and services through classroom teaching, academic lectures, seminars and more.
With his rich experience in cooperative research, Prof. John Fu focused on how to integrate the item response theory, latent growth mixture modeling and quantile regression statistical methods with medical and health management scientific research. During lectures, he shared valuable experience in research design, research methods and data collation techniques. He also described how to use the Stata, SAS and MPlus software to implement the above statistical methods.
Every lecture had about 60 people, including both teachers and students, who were eager to ask questions and participate in the discussion. They believed that the discussed methods could be directly applied to their research projects. In addition, Dr. Fu was appointed as a foreign member of the Doctoral Thesis Defense Committee and participated in the graduation thesis defense of three doctoral students, two of which were international students and one being native.
Furthermore, Dr. Fu has conducted one-on-one guidance on the writing and publication of related research and papers from several young teachers and graduate students. He corrected the misuse of statistical methods and data analysis of graduate students and improved their statistical ability. Dr. Fu also participated in the academic meetings of research teams in the school to discuss about the existing research methodology, research design, concepts, measurement, statistical analysis and technical consultation of thesis writing among other topics.
During his visit, in respect for his outstanding academic attainments, many students often consulted him on how to write statistical essays in their daily time. As his advice on health statistics was accepted, he was warmly welcomed by teachers and students. Many teachers and students are looking forward to meeting and cooperating with him in the future.
