Prof. Dennis Kunimoto from University of Alberta of Canada gives a lecture at the School of Medicine and Health Management
On Dec. 19th, 2019, Prof. Dennis Kunimoto from University of Albert (UA) of Canada was invited to give lectures at the School of Medicine and Health Management. Prof. Dennis Kunimoto used to be the member or the leader of many committees related to clinical and medical education, from hospital level, to university level and national level. Immunology of mycobacteria and molecular biology are Prof. Dennis Kunimoto’s major research directions.
At 3: 30 pm. on 19th, Prof. Dennis Kunimoto gave a lecture titled “Canadian Medical Education System” in the meeting room on the 7th floor at the school. The lecture was presided by the Dean, Feng Zhanchun, and Wang Ruoxi as the interpreter. Leaders from the Department of Academic Affairs of various schools and the college, as well as the supervisors of teaching affairs in Tongji and Union Hospital, and leaders from the School of Medicine and Health Management attended the lecture. Firstly, Prof. Dennis Kunimoto briefly introduced University of Alberta and the city Edmonton which is located in the southwest of Canada ; the introduction also covered the research areas and emphasized the features and advantages of UA. Then he illustrated Canadian medical healthcare system in the following aspects: the liability system, the coverage, the cost, the goal and significance. At last, Prof. Dennis
Kunimoto introduced the curriculum, graduation requirements, and career development of Canadian medical postgraduates. He also explained the standard and goal of relevant capability evaluation via a chart.
The discussion at the last part of the lecture was enthusiastic. Several teachers discussed with Prof. Dennis Kunimoto on issues regarding postgraduate cultivation system, Canadian medical care system, etc. Feng Zhanchun thought highly of this lecture. He mentioned that we should learn from Canadian medical care system, and he also expressed the willingness of further cooperation and exchanges with UA. The lecture ended in warm applause. Although the time was limited, the participants have learned a lot. The lecture has helped them widen their horizon on international perspective.
