In order to improve the understanding of the application of artificial intelligence technology in the medical field for the freshmen of information management major and promote the students to further plan their career directions, Information Department Director Shen Lining and Headteacher Wu Tailai led the undergraduates majoring in Information Management and Information System of the grade 2020 to visit the R&D headquarters of HKUST iFlytek in Wuhan New World Optics Valley on December 18, 2020. R&D director Xiao Qiao and engineer Zhong Zhi (who graduated from the 17th class information management) received the students.
First of all, the staff of HKUST iFlytek led the students to visit the smart exhibition hall of HKUST iFlytek Technology, showing the typical applications of iFlytek’s world-leading artificial intelligence technology in various industries, especially the medical field. HKUST iFlytek has always been the leader of the intelligent voice and artificial intelligence industry in China. With the voice command of the interpreter, the intelligent assistant in the exhibition hall can quickly give instructions as required. In the medical field, iFLYTEK’s layout covers three major fields: intelligent hospitals, intelligent medical assistants, and artificial intelligence-assisted diagnosis and treatment platforms. At present, iFlytek has products such as voice electronic medical records, medical imaging-assisted diagnosis, and medical guidance, which have been applied to many well-known hospitals in China including Wuhan Central Hospital. Under the display of the interactive screen, the students had a deeper understanding of the development progress of artificial intelligence technology in the medical field. In addition, the exhibition hall also displayed the research and development achievements of iFlytek in the fields of public security law, intelligent education, smart cities, intelligent vehicles, and other fields for many years, so that students can truly experience the convenient and life-changing artificial intelligence.
At 4 pm, representatives of engineers from HKUST iFLYTEK, including the engineer representatives from the architecture group, algorithm development group, data processing group and test group of the R&D department, attended the exchange meeting with the teachers and students of the information class of grade 20. First, the engineers introduced their main responsibilities and work experience to the students. During the question-asking session, many students discussed and interacted with engineers on their career planning, the challenge of technology research and development, and the development direction of artificial intelligence technology in the medical field. Finally, the teachers spoke highly of the visit. Teacher Shen Lining concluded that students should further think more about professional knowledge and career development direction during the undergraduate period. She hopes that the students will give full play to what they have learned in the future and contribute to related industries of artificial intelligence and medical treatment.
Through this event, undergraduates have deeply felt the development trend of informatization, networking, and intelligence in the medical field further understood the development trend of the medical intelligence industry and personally felt the working atmosphere of famous artificial intelligence enterprises, which will be more beneficial to students' future study and development. AI empowers the world, and we also hope that there will be "intelligent" young people who can "inform" in the future and create a better future.
