Graduation Internship Syllabus

I. Basic Information

Course code: MHM3541

Course: Graduation Internship

II. Course Overview

Graduation internship is an important part of the training plan of colleges and universities. It is an important teaching link that promotes the combination of theory and practice. This course aims to cultivate students' practical and innovative capability. In order to regulate the management of graduation internships and continuously improve the quality of internships, this internship course syllabus is formulated in accordance with the relevant regulations of the school's undergraduate internship management and the actual conditions of the internship site and the college.

 

III. Purpose and Requirements

1. Purpose:

(1)To strengthen links between theory and practice, enhance students' understanding of social conditions and professional background, broaden horizons, consolidate and apply the theoretical knowledge, improve professional skills, develop the ability to analyze and solve practical problems, conduct preliminary scientific research.

(2)To cultivate good professional ethics and a rigorous working style, and deepen the knowledge and understanding of the nature of the profession and business scope, and meet the training goals, training requirements and the actual needs of the society.

2. Requirements:

(1) Understand the general situation of the society or the internship sites, and improve the perceptual understanding of the major.

(2) Understand the status, role and development trend of the major in the national economy.

(3) Consolidate and deepen the theoretical knowledge, and cultivate the ability to analyze and solve practical problems.

(4) Be familiar with the responsibilities and working procedures of major’s relevant jobs, and obtain preliminary training in organization and management.

(5) Learn from the staff of the internship site with an open mind and cultivate the character of professionalism.

 

IV. Content Overview

1. Students should complete the relevant internship works and reach the qualification according to the arrangement of the internship site.

2. Students should complete the phased work of the graduation thesis in accordance with the relevant requirements and process arrangements (see the graduation thesis guide for specific requirements).

 

V. Form and Guidance

1. Students are scattered among different internship sites, and the internship sites are relatively concentrated in the region according to the characteristics of this major.

2. The teachers in the internship sites are responsible for guiding the students' specific internship work and scoring the students' internship performance. The college assigns professional instructors to internship sites to guide internships and thesis work.

Graduation practice time: January 3 to April 10, 2021(12 weeks)

1. Mobilization time: December 27, 2021

2. Return to school time: April 10 - April 15, 2021

 

VII. Contents and Requirements

1. If internship sites agree to receive internships, they should express letter of acceptance to teacher Zhang Lan for record.

2. Students are required to complete the internship work. The teacher will grade the students’ internship results on the internship appraisal form (The following form needs to be filled on the internship appraisal form)

Organizational structure and responsibilities

1.1 Be familiar with the management system, organizational structure and relationship between relevant departments of the internship site;

1.2 Be familiar with the main positions and work content of the department, as well as the basic work process.


Draw a diagram of the human, financial and material management structure of the internship site and the relevant departments of interest;

Draw the organizational chart, describe the job responsibilities and business flowcharts of the internship department;

Submit the work within 8 weeks of starting the internship.

Official document processing and writing

2.1 Master the standardized methods of document exchange, processing, and file management;

2.2 Master the method of writing official documents.


Summarize the requirements and precautions related to the processing of documents by classification;

②Participate in office document writing and choose one representative, summarize the writing notes;

Submit before the end of the internship.



3

Office skills and etiquette

3.1 Learn interpersonal communication in office (such as calling, receiving visitors, getting along with colleagues, undertaking chores, etc.);

3.2 Master the basic etiquette and norms of the office.



Summarize the office's interpersonal communication, etiquette requirements, personal experience and observations, and analyze their own strengths and weaknesses;

Submit a summary of more than 500 words before the end of the internship.

Business activities and implementation

4.1 Be familiar with the organization of the meeting and what should be noted in work;

4.2 Participate in the main business activities of the office, or accompany the relevant personnel conducting primary inspection and research.



Observe, experience and participate in the organization of the meeting, and submit a summary with more than 500 words.

According to the main business activities engaged in, write a record of activities including feelings of more than 500 words (students who participate in surveys can replace with survey reports);

Submit before the end of the internship.

Internship summary and outlook

Review the internship gains, sum up experience, express thoughts, and consider matters that should be paid attention to in the future.

An internship summary of more than 2000 words should be submitted after the internship.

VIII. Organization and Management

1. College established internship working group: The work of graduation internship is under the unified leadership of the leader in charge. The internship working group is also established.

2. Responsibilities of internship working group:

(1) They must take the responsibility of formulating and reviewing the internship plan, according to the "Management Rules for Undergraduate Internships of Huazhong University of Science and Technology" and training objectives of each major,

(2) They must contact the internship site and coordinate, according to the requirements of the internship plan of each major (direction),

(3) They should be responsible for organizing graduation internship mobilization work, organizing students to study the internship outline and implementation plan, and conduct ideological education on internship attitude, discipline, safety and confidentiality according to the characteristics of the specialty internship.

(4) They should understand the students' internship situation, coordinate and solve related problems, conduct stage inspections of graduation thesis work timely, during the internship, arrange teachers to go to the internship site to guide the internship work,

(5) They should be responsible for checking the implementation of the internship discipline. For serious violations of discipline, the internship working group will put forward handling opinions in accordance with the relevant regulations of school and report to the administrative office of the college for discussion and decision.

(6) They should supervise and inspect the quality of student internship work, and regularly understand the work situation of each link of student internship. At the end of the internship, the internship should be summarized timely, and improvement measures for the problems existing in the internship should be proposed.

3. Administration:

(1) The internship sites should arrange students in fixed or different positions (no more than 2 positions) according to professional requirements and position conditions.

(2) The internship sites should establish internship groups by region, and convene an internship work meeting once a month. The internship team leader will report each student's internship situation and problems to the internship working group every month in written form. The content of the report includes the students' psychological trends, work and living conditions, to ensure that the college can grasp the internship situation timely and comprehensively, solve problems quickly and effectively.

(3) College internship working group will assign teachers on a regular basis (every one month or two weeks) to internship sites to inspect and supervise, strengthen communication and feedback, assess the progress and effectiveness of undergraduate internships.

4. Requirements of Students:

(1) They must obey the leadership and arrangement of the instructor and the internship working group, participate in various activities arranged by the internship site (or teachers) on time, and complete the internship task seriously in accordance with the relevant requirements of the internship plan; focus on connections between theory and practice. Take time to see, learn and think and strive to complete the graduation internship with excellent results.

(2) They must respect all teachers of the internship site, accept their instruction humbly, take the work of each department seriously, and strive to improve ability to analyze and solve problems; work independently and strengthen the training of basic skills.

(3) They must follow the regulations of the internship site; abide by the rules of the internship site, and do not change or violate it without authorization.

(4) They must take good care of office equipment of the internship site and use consumables sparingly. Anyone who loses or damages items shall be personally liable and compensate according to price.

(5) They must abide by labor discipline, work and rest system. Do not arrive late, leave early, and be absent from work without reason. If students need to ask for leave due to illness or special reasons, they must go through the process of asking for leave. Asking for leave within three days shall be approved by the supervisor of the internship site; for more than three days, it shall be approved and filed by the supervisor of the internship site and the college.

(6) They must participate in various activities and public welfare labor of the internship site, and keep the working, studying and living environment clean and tidy.

(7) They must abide by the "Regulations on Safety and Confidentiality of Graduation Internship" (appendix) to avoid leaks and safety accidents.

(8) They must complete written assignments of positions according to relevant requirements and regulations of the internship site.

(9) They must submit the "Graduation Internship Appraisal Form", the written assignments required of the position, and the "Internship Summary" to the teaching office of the college within one week after returning to school.

 

IX. Requirements of Internship Teachers

1. Internship teachers should play a significant role in the department with extensive experience in health management practices (three years working experiment in current position), characteristic of integrity, strong sense of responsibility, passion in teaching work.

2. They should conduct students according to the "three bases" (basic knowledge, basic skills, basic abilities) and the "three strictness" (rigorous attitude, strict requirements, tight organization).

3. They should instruct interns depending on regulations, undergraduate internships outline, and professional guidance to make students master the basic knowledge, skills and abilities of management practice.

4. They should take care of interns' psychological health and professional development, help them adapt to environment and carry out education on professional ethics, teamwork, discipline and other aspects. Communicate frequently with the department director and the internship team leader to find out the problems in the internship and give feedback in time.

5. They should assess performance and ability of interns, and judge and write reviews after the internship.

 

X. Assessment and Performance

Graduation internship performance consists of two parts, and one is the appraisal by the internship site; the other is the score of internship written work and the "Internship Summary".

1. Appraisal by Internship Sites

The teacher of the internship site is responsible for filling in the "Graduation Internship Appraisal Form" according to the students' internship attitude, work ability, task completion and compliance with disciplines. Appraisal by internship sites accounts for 70% of final performance.

2. Score of Written Work and "Internship Summary"

Examination Committee assesses the internship written work and "Internship Summary", and the score accounts for 30% of final performance.

3. Graduation internship performance is included in the graduation examination and the membership enrollment file.

Regulations on Safety and Confidentiality of Graduation Internship

1. Confidentiality

(1) When internship is mobilized, teachers should conduct confidentiality education for all interns and guide them to learn confidentiality regulations. During the internship, all interns should strictly abide by all confidentiality regulations of the internship site.

(2) When borrowing documentations, students should follow procedures; extracting and copying relevant materials or taking photos of the physical objects and other related items should be approved by the internship site in advance.

(3) All confidential information shall be properly kept and shall not be lost. Confidential information can only be read at the place designated by the internship site. The confidential information cannot be taken out of the designated place or transferred to others without the consent of the internship site, and cannot be taken to public places for reading.

(4) The content of the internship must be recorded in the internship notebook and report book uniformly issued by the school, and the internship notebook or report book shall not be torn up or used separately. After the internship is completed, the internship notebook and report book should be submitted to the relevant department of the internship site for review, and then the internship team will bring it back to the reference room of each college (department).

(5) All materials recorded during the internship (including internship notebooks, reports, relevant charts, photos, audio tapes, samples, process flow, calculation procedures, etc.) shall be handed over to the reference room of the school (department) after returning to school. Private possession is not permitted.

(6) The internship notebook and report can only record the content of the internship business and cannot be used for other purposes.

(7) The internship notebook, report, pass and other items of the interns should be properly kept, and they should not be lost or lent to others.

(8) All interns should observe the secrets of the internship site. Teachers and students of different majors, different internship sites, or different internship tasks shall not exchange confidential information of the internship site with each other, leak confidential information orally or by letter, and shall not discuss confidential content on occasions that are not confidential.

(9) Whenever leak accident occurs, it is necessary to immediately investigate and report the situation to the confidential department of the internship site and the school.

2. Safety

(1) In order to ensure the safety of teachers and students during internships outside the school, each internship team shall designate safety officers to be responsible for safety work, conduct safety education before internship, formulate and check safety measures.

(2) All internship teams must strictly abide by the safety and security regulations of the sites, abide by the operating procedures, and accept the guidance of their sites. After the internship team arrives at the internship site, the site should be asked to provide safety education to the interns.

(3) During the internship, position and equipment shall not be changed without permission, and other equipment, instruments and vehicles shall not be used privately.

(4) The safety officer must criticize the interns who violate the operating procedures and safety systems, and have the right to stop behaviors that seriously endanger the safety of personnel and equipment. Teachers in charge of internship team have the right to stop their internships or even order interns to return to school who have seriously violated safety regulations or caused serious accidents.

(5) Pay attention to safety in internship team’s activities. When traveling by car and ship, or taking public buses (trolleys) in the city, abide by the traffic rules, prevent traffic accidents, and keep luggage and items. When interns want to leave the team for activities, they must ask for leave from the main teacher in charge of the intern team and return on time. During the internship, students are generally not allowed to stay away from the team, and girls are not allowed to go out alone at night.

(6) Pay attention to food hygiene; strictly observe the work and rest system; pay attention to the fire prevention and electricity safety of residential houses, and prevent gas poisoning.

(7) During the internship, students are not allowed to swim in the river, lake, or sea.

(8) During the internship, interns are not allowed to leave the internship location to travel abroad for any reason.

(9) If a major accident occurs during the internship, rescue and treatment should be organized in time, and immediately report to the leader of the site and the school.

(10) The person in charge of the safety and security of each college (department) should regularly check the safety of the internship team. After the internship, the safety officer of each internship team should report to the college (department) on safety work and sum up experience and lessons.
