Recently, Academic Essentials Database of China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) released a list of high-impact papers in recent 12 years (2011-2022). (https://xsjy.cnki.net/) This selection is based on the CNKI database, using the cited frequency, download frequency, and paper citation standardized index (PCSI) as the evaluation indicators. Any of the three indicators reaching the top 1% in the discipline category leads to a high-impact paper.
The article titled "Gross examination report of a COVID-19 death autopsy ", published by authors in the Department of Forensic Medicine of Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), was selected as a high-PCSI paper, a high-cited paper and a high-download paper at the same time, ranking the second high-impact papers of Medicine!
This is the first academic report on the systematic autopsy of the deceased due to COVID-19 in February 2020, published 12 days after the first COVID-19 autopsy in the world, which was performed by a team leading by Professor Liu Liang in the Department of Forensic Medicine of Tongji Medical College, HUST. This is the first report on the pathological changes of various organs in patients with severe COVID-19, especially severe pulmonary fibrosis, consolidation and viscous secretion in the airway. It also indicated the importance of diluting and draining airway mucus in clinical treatment. Later, the research results of COVID-19 autopsy pathology were included in the Chinese National Diagnosis and Treatment Protocol for COVID-19 (Trial Version 7), contributing the Tongji's forensic medical strength to scientific and technological epidemic resistance!
The forensic pathology team in the Department of Forensic Medicine, Tongji Medical College, HUST not only assumed the responsibility bravely in front of Coronavirus pandemic, but also made unremitting efforts to combat the COVID-19 and clarify the pathological mechanism of COVID-19. The team has published more than 20 papers on pathology research of COVID-19 (the highest impact factor is 38), and has undertaken several scientific grands programs, including one emergency special project of the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology, two emergency tackling projects of Department of Science and Technology of Hubei Province, and one project of the Hubei Outstanding Youth Fund Project. The suggestion report of COVID-19 issues written by this team have been adopted by the Hubei Provincial Committee Information Comprehensive Office. This forensic medical team in HUST will continues to contribute to the treatment, prevention and control of COVID-19.
