Dean of the Institute of Reproductive Health, Aihua Liao, Visited the Wayne State University

  From June 10th to June 11th, 2019, Prof. Aihua Liao, Prof. Huiping Zhang, Dr. Kai Zhao and Dr. Chunyan Liu from the Institute of Reproductive Health of HUST, visited Wayne State University to discuss the specific issues of international cooperation.

On June 10th, Prof. Liao received warm reception from Ahmad M. Ezzeddine, the Vice President of Wayne State University. Ezzeddine introduced and affirmed the current cooperation between the two universities. Both sides also discussed further strengthening the joint training of graduate students and international courses.

   At 11:00 am, accompanied by Prof. Gil Mor (Director of the Human Growth and Development Center of C.S. Mott), Prof. Zhibing Zhang and Jaclyn Assarian (Deputy president secretary), Prof. Liao and her team visited the Confucius Institute jointly organized by HUST and Wayne State University. During the period, Li Liang, the Chinese Dean of the Confucius Institute, introduced the rich teaching and social activities of the Confucius Institute at Wayne State University. Later, in order to make visitors better understanding of the Confucius Institute, John Brender, the dean of the Confucius Institute, broadcasted a televised video about the Confucius Institute to them.   Prof. Liao highly appreciated the efforts of the Confucius Institute in promoting the cultural exchanges between China and the United States, which laid the foundation for the full-scale international exchanges and cooperation between our school and Wayne State University. The visit ended successfully in a Chinese lunch prepared by the Confucius Institute.

  At 1:30pm, Prof. Liao and her delegation visited Hutzel Womens' Hospital and met with Prof. Chaur-Dong Hsu, the chief of obstetrics and gynecology, under the careful arrangement of Professor Gil Mor. Both sides introduced each other's basic situation and advantages, and looked forward to cooperate and win - win in basic and clinical research of obstetrics and gynecology.

At 8:30am on June 11, Prof. Liao and her team visited the C.S. Mott Human Growth and Development Center where Prof. Gil Mor worked. Under the organization of Prof. Gil Mor, Prof. Liao and Marcus Zervos, the director of the Office of Foreign Exchange of Wayne State University School of Medicine, conducted in-depth discussions on the details of international exchanges and drafted preliminary agreements together. Marcus Zervos said, he hopes to take the collaboration of reproductive medicine as a window to promote the international cooperation and exchange between the two medical college. At the invitation of Prof. Liao, Marcus Zervos said that he will come to visit our institute in November with Prof. Gil Mor, to further implement the international cooperation between the two sides.

  Subsequently, Prof. Gil Mor organized the five PIs of the C.S. Mott Human Growth and Development Center to discuss with Prof. Liao and her delegation respectively. They gave a detailed introduction about their respective research field, and discussed possible future cooperation directions.

  At 12:00am at same day, Prof. Liao gave a wonderful lecture entitled “Regulation of costimulatory signals at maternal-fetal interface” at the C.S. Mott Human Growth and Development Center. She first showed the basic situation of our school and research team, and then systematically elaborated a series of results in maternal-fetal interface she had obtained, which aroused great interest among the teachers and students. The report demonstrates the hard power of our research on reproductive immunity, and has made our international counterparts more impressed with our school and institute.



After the lecture, the C.S. Mott center prepared a pizza lunch for the teachers and students and this visit ended in the luncheon filled with laughter.
