At the invitation of Professor Liao Aihua, On the afternoon of June 28, 2019 (The day of Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Brown University), Professor Susan Cu-Uvin of Brown University visited the Institute of Reproductive Health, brought a wonderful lecture to teachers and students of institute and discussed with them. This meeting was chaired by Professor Zhou Liquan, the director of Reproductive and Regenerative Medicine Transfer Center.

Professor Susan presented an academic report entitled "Prevention of HIV Mother to Child Transmission" focusing on how to reduce mother-to-child transmission of HIV to all attendees. Professor Susan reported that the combination of antiretroviral therapy to HIV-infected mothers can effectively reduce mother-to-child transmission of HIV. Antiretroviral therapy can reduce maternal blood/genital viral load and effectively block mother-to-child transmission of HIV through pre-exposure prevention (using drugs that can penetrate the placenta) and post-exposure prevention (continued intake of drugs after birth). Professor Susan has been concerned about the situation of HIV-infected women for a long time. This report has benefited us a lot, encouraging us to pay more attention to the special group of HIV pregnant women, and popularize the knowledge of health education to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV with drugs.

Subsequently, four professors including Professor Yuan Shuiqiao (Director of Reproductive Biology and Genetics Research), Professor Zhang Huiping (Director of Reproductive Immunology and Epidemiology Research), Professor Xiangwenpei (Director of Reproductive Pharmacology and Reproductive Endocrinology Research), and Professor Zhou Liquan (Director of Reproductive and Regenerative Medicine Transformational Center), briefly reported the development of each laboratory and the intention of cooperation in the future respectively.

During the presentation, Professor Susan also communicated with teachers and students. The academic discussions have provided a deeper understanding and laid a solid foundation for further cooperation and exchanges in the field of reproductive health. (Edited by Wang Fengli)
