On September 23, 2021, The series of academic lectures on "International Salon of Stomatology" initiated by the School of Stomatology,TJMC of HUSTwere successfully held online, with Dr. Wang Man as the mediator, and Professor Zhang Zhen, the deputy director of the Department of Implant Restoration, as the host. Professor Will Palin from the School of Dentistry, Institute of Clinical Sciences, University of Birmingham gave a lecture. The online participants reached 113. It is also the fifth lecture of the “China-UK Medical Symposium.”

Professor Will Palin is the director of research from the School of Dentistry, Institute of clinical sciences of UoB. His main research fields are oral intelligent materials, photochemotherapy, absorbable bone materials, etc. He was funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), led a number of interdisciplinary studies in Europe and around the world, and published dozens of works in international high-impact journals.

In this lecture, Professor Will Palin introduced his latest research progress in photon oral biology, and explained three important research directions: the oral application of light-curable resins, the research frontier of photochemical materials, and the application of photosensitive technology in medicine. The lecture demonstrated the broad prospects and infinite possibilities of the interdisciplinary of medical and engineering. It has attracted more than 100 students, faculty, researchers, and clinicians from HUST and nationwide. After the lecture, the participants had an in-depth academic discussion with Professor Palin. The teachers and students of Stomatology said that the salon gave everyone access to the rich academic resources, broadened their academic horizons, resolved many of their puzzles in scientific research. They were deeply inspired and looked forward to the next lecture.

This academic lecture is the first lecture in the series of academic activities of "International Salon of Stomatology" of the school of Stomatology, and the fifth one of the “China-UK Medical Symposium”. It aims to strengthen the academic exchanges between the college and internationally renowned universities and experts, expand the international academic vision of teachers and students, improve the overall academic level, and extend the domestic and international influence of the college.
