On December 5, Ms. Gabriela Cuciureanu,the Director of Confucius Institute, and the First Secretary of the Presidentof Grigore T.Popa University of Medicine and Pharmacy,came to visit Tongji MedicalCollege.

Mr. QIN Xuanbin,Deputy Party Secretary of the CPC Committee of TJMC,addressed the meeting. He expressed warm welcome and pointed out that the Confucius InstituteatGrigore T.Popa University of MedicineandPharmacy is a starting point of bilateral cooperation, a continuationand witnessof the traditional friendship between Chinese and Romanian people. He hoped two universities could take this opportunity to promote mutual benefit in terms of student and staff mobilityandscientific research cooperation.

Director Gabriela made a specific introduction ofGrigore T.Popa University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Sheexpressed her great expectation for establishing friendship withTJMC, carrying out extensive and in-depth cooperation in the fields of medical education and scientific research.

During the meeting, Ms. HURuimin, Vice-DirectorofOffice of International Exchange Centermade specific suggestionsregarding the future cooperation. Ms. Cathy WANG,gave a detailedintroduction ofTJMC.Dr. XUXiaohu, Physicianof Affiliated Tongji Hospital, introduced the Traditional Chinese Medicine Department.

It is well-known that Grigore T. Popa University of Medicine and Pharmacy, founded in 1879, is the first Romanian medical education and research institution to be included in theWorldTimes Higher Educationuniversity rankings for 2017-2018. The European Universities Association (EUA) describesitas one of the leading universities in Europe in the field of medicine. The agreement to initiate Confucius Institute between it and HUST was signed in October 2022, which is the first key co-operation project between the two universities.
