Department of Orthodontics

There are 17 faculties in the department, including 2 professors, 6 associate professors, 9 lecturers and attending physicians. There are 2 doctoral supervisors and 6 master supervisors. Orthodontic department is the deputy editor in chief of《Orthodontics of Stomatology, Orthodontics volume》for oral and residential training program of National Health Commission, the deputy editor in chief of《Stomatology》for National advanced health professional and technical qualification examination guide of National Health Commission, editor of《Stomatology》for five-year undergraduate clinical medicine planning textbook of national colleges and universities, and member of the second Stomatology Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of education.

In the past five years, more than 70 doctoral and master's degree students have been trained, including more than 20 international students from Spain, South Korea, Albania, Thailand, Russia, Nepal and Palestine, and more than 20 standardized stomatologists have been trained every year.

There are Chinese young female scientist, winner of the National Excellence Award, "BaoGang excellent teacher award", leading talents in scientific and technological innovation of the National “Ten Thousand Talents Program”, young and middle-aged leading talents in scientific and technological innovation of the Ministry of science and technology, good doctors like Bethune, outstanding professional and technical talents of Hubei Province, winners of "100 excellent papers on Chinese medical education", and excellent talents of the Ministry of science and technology Hubei Province excellent doctoral thesis instructor, national resident standardized training excellent teaching teacher and so on.

In the past five years, orthodontic department has presided over more than 40 scientific research projects, such as "National Foundation for Distinguished Youth", "National Found for Excellent Young Scholar", "Key R & D Plan of the Ministry of Science and Technology", "Major International Significant cooperation Projects of NSFC", "General projects/Youth fund of NSFC", "Innovation Team of Hubei Provincial Department of Health", "Hubei provincial fund for Distinguished Youth", etc. More than 40 SCI articles have been published in international authoritative journals as first or corresponding authors, such as PNAS, Circ Res, Adv Sci, ACS Nano, Cancer Res, Biomaterials, J Dent Res, Stem Cell Rep, Stem Cells, etc. The department won two first prizes of "Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award", "Second prize of Hubei Provincial Achievement Promotion Award", first prize of teaching achievement of colleges and universities in Hubei Province, first prize of excellent teaching quality award of Huazhong University of science and technology, and first prize of teaching achievement award of Huazhong University of science and technology respectively. Our department also served as an excellent video open course of Huazhong University of science and technology and an excellent course of Huazhong University of science and technology.

Department of Prosthodontics and Implant Dentistry

With decades of development, the Department of Prosthodontics and Implant Dentistry (DPID) is leading a high level in the field of clinical practice, education as well as research nationwide now. DPID integrates four academic divisions (fixed prosthodontics, removable prosthodontics, implant dentistry and dental prosthesis) and clinical centers of Prosthodontics and Implant Dentistry at our affiliated teaching hospitals. The clinical centers adopt the world-class diagnosis and procedures to provide an excellent environment for patient care, including edentulous restoration, immediate implant placement and aesthetic restoration, CAD/CAM chairside restoration, and removable denture, etc.

Currently, There are 21 faculty members in DPID, including 2 professors (PhD advisors), 6 associate professors (Master advisors), 13 lecturers and attending physician, that are well-known for their outstanding training experience in prosthodontics and dental implantology, acknowledged by a number of teaching-related awards, such as the mentor of "Excellent Doctoral Dissertation in Hubei Province", the responsible professor of curriculum of the Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), the Outstanding Teacher and Advanced Individual in Teaching of the First Clinical College of the HUST, the second prize of 100 National Excellent Medical Education Papers, the first prize of the Star Show Cases Report of the Chinese Stomatological Association (CSA), the Prize of Excellent Works of the Heraeus Cup in the Difficult Removable Partial Denture Restoration Case Review Activity, Outstanding Contribution Award of Tongji Hospital affiliated to Tongji Medical College of the HUST, the second and third prizes of excellent medical teaching papers of the HUST.

The key staff of the department hold important positions in the national well-known academic organizations, such as the Standing Member of the Oral Prosthodontics Committee of the CSA, the Faculty Member of the Oral Implantology Council of the CSA, the Faculty Member of the Emergency Committee of the CSA, the Young Member of the Oral and Maxillofacial Prosthodontics Committee of the CSA; the Standing Member of the Oral Prosthodontics Committee of the Oral Plastic Surgery Branch of the Chinese Society of Plastic Surgery and Aesthetics; the Standing Director and Director of the Hubei Dental Association, the Deputy Chairman and Standing Member of the Oral Prosthodontics Committee and the Oral Implantology Committee of Hubei Dental Association; the Standing Director of Wuhan Dental Association, etc.

DPIP is well-funded by grants in the education and training of predoctoral and postdoctoral students: four from General Program of National Natural Science Foundation of China, six from National Natural Science Foundation-Youth Foundation, one Major Special Project of Hubei Province, one Key Research and Development Plan of Hubei Province, and four from the General Program of National Natural Science Foundation of Hubei Province. Up to date, we have published more than 100 papers in the authoritative journals at home and abroad, and awarded three items of the “First Prize for Science and Technology Progress of Hubei Province”, two items of the “Second Prize for Science and Technology Progress of Hubei Province”, and "Wuhan Project for Young and Middle-aged Medical Backbone Talents Project".

Department of Oral Medicine

Under the Department of Oral Medicine, there are four teaching and research departments for Endodontology, Periodontology, Diseases of the oral mucosal and Pediatric Stomatology, as well as four corresponding clinical departments. There are 28 faculty members, including 2 professors, 10 associate professors, 1 doctoral supervisor and 11 master supervisors.

The Department of Oral Medicine is an important base not only for prevention, treatment and research of common oral diseases, but also for talent cultivation. It is now a key discipline of Hubei Province. In recent years, the faculty and staff have hosted more than ten projects, including national scientific research projects, provincial and ministerial teaching and research projects, and published more than 50 articles in domestic and foreign journals.

Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery was established in 1952. It is one of the earliest and most important bases for the prevention, research and clinical training of oral and maxillofacial surgery in Central China. The Department is the editor-in-chief of the “Twelfth Five-Year” National Key Book Publishing Planning Project “Key Points and Difficulties and Countermeasures of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery”. The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery has 7 research sub-units that cover the fields of alveolar surgery, cleft lip and palate surgery, trauma and plastic surgery, head and neck tumor surgery, orthognathic surgery, temporomandibular joint disease, oral radiology, etc. In addition, there are anesthesiology department, PACU, operating room (13 laminar flow operation rooms) and speech therapy room for cleft lip and palate, psychological consultation room for cleft lip and palate, development evaluation room, cranio-maxillofacial digital surgery center, etc. A number of specialty outpatient clinics have been carried out, such as: maxillofacial hemangioma, maxillofacial tumors, voice correction, combined orthognathic treatment, temporomandibular joint treatment, ECG monitoring tooth extraction, and painless dental treatment. The department has repeatedly received funding from scientific research projects such as the “National Natural Science Foundation of China General Program”, “National Natural Science Foundation of China Youth Fund", and "Hubei Provincial Natural Science Foundation”. At the same time of focus on scientific research, we are actively carrying out the clinical transformation of research results. We innovatively adopted computer-aided design, 3D printing technology and Mixed Reality (MR) technology in the treatment of oral and maxillofacial tumors to achieve good treatment results. We have achieved a leading position in the digital oral medical level in Central China. This department has a faculty and staff of 28. Among them, there are 1 State Council Special Allowance Expert, 128 senior faculty members, 3 mentors for Ph.D., 14 mentors for M.S. The department has received numerous teaching awards including “Chinese physicians Association-National Standardized Training of Resident Doctors: “Excellent Teachers”, “Wuhan Young and Middle-aged Medical Talents”, “Huazhong University of Science and Technology Excellent Teaching Quality Award”and others.
